Must I be a good swimmer to take up SCUBA diving with MSAC?
An average level of swimming skills is required to make sure that you are comfortable and confident in the water.
What does a basic training course consist of?
A basic OPEN WATER DIVER qualification with MSAC will take about 6 weeks before you are ready to enter the sea. There will be typically be 6 pool sessions of about 2 hours each and in addition, 10 to 12 hours of theory lectures will be held over one weekend. You will need to complete a minimum number of qualifying dives (normally over 2 Club trips) before taking your final practical examination in the open water and also a written theory test (multiple choice style) before you obtain your CMAS One Star certification.
My friend got his C-card in a week. Why can't I?
The key issue in diving is safety, and safety comes about through knowledge and experience. Since MSAC is a club, we do not train a very large number of divers so that we can provide maximum attention to your personal standards. We insist on sufficient time given to training and open water work to ensure that you reach a satisfactory level of expertise before giving you your diving qualification. If you are interested in instant qualifications, MSAC is not for you.
Will my MSAC training be recognized elsewhere?
MSAC qualifies divers under the auspices of the World Underwater Federation, CMAS. This qualification will allow you to dive anywhere in the world.

Does MSAC provide equipment for Open Water training?
New recruits must have their basic equipment ie. fins, booties, mask and snorkel. Five sets of dive equipment : tank, buoyancy compensator (BC) and regulator are available for training at the pool. Rental of this equipment is at RM 30 per set/per session.
What do I do if I am already a qualified diver?
If you already hold a recognised diving qualification and wish to join MSAC, your dive logs will be inspected by the Club and you may be required to undertake a pool check-out or open water check-out supervised by one of the Club's instructors. This is to confirm your standards before you dive with the Club.
How are MSAC's diving trips organized?
A calendar of diving trips is published in the Club's newsletter and on the website and will include details of registering for dives. All dive trips are on a first come basis and MSAC does all its diving on a cost sharing basis.

MSAC also provides training in safe compressor operations.
